Title

Hardware-based random signal selection between concurrent packet message flow of exchange switch

Abstract

The method provides fast and fair, hardware based, random selection of a number k of signals from a variable number a of active signals within a total of N signals. In a pseudo-randomly generated sequence, the total number N of all signals is continually checked for activity. According to the desired number of signals to be selected, the first active signals in the test sequence are selected. The total number of signals may be divided into groups according to a hierarchical, recursive scheme. To generate the individual test sequences, a random-controlled selection may be carried out within the individual hierarchical levels.
